“Fair-minded Kentuckians mourn the passing of President Ford. He believed in fairness and went on the record saying so in an interview with The Detroit News in 2001. Ford felt that the federal government should provide equal rights in the areas of Social Security and tax benefits whether a person was gay or not. I have been moved watching the press coverage of his passing. The various interviews of those that knew him best talk about his passions and his love for the time he spent specifically in the U.S. House of Representatives. While the former President was someone to heal our country during a difficult time, he was a politician and I appreciate his words encouraging others in the arena to be open and inviting to the gay community.
